CGCM Rock Radio New Singles – October 6, 2021
(BEAVER BUZZ)
Consider this the sun-soaked Southern California edition of the Beaver Buzz. We’ve got new tracks from David Lee Roth, Joyous Wolf, Edge of Paradise, and Classless Act. If that doesn’t scream the L.A., I don’t know what does. Not to worry, we also have new music from bands representing the UK, Canada, and other parts of the US.
Lo-Rez Sunset – David Lee Roth
“Lo-Rez Sunset” is certainly an appropriate song for someone who just announced their retirement. The latest installment of the mellow songs DLR created with John 5 might be the best of the bunch. Dave seems to be in a good place, and I’m happy for him.

Fearless – Joyous Wolf
Hard rock and Sothern California go hand-in-hand, and Joyous Wolf carries that tradition on. “Fearless” also has just a touch of that Southern groove rock inspired by bands like Tora Tora (we’ll hear more about them later).

False Idols – Edge Of Paradise
Although they’re from L.A., Edge of Paradise has more of a European feel to me. The fourth album from Edge of Paradise is bursting with sweet tracks like “False Idols“. It’s melodic metal served with a side of sci-fi.

Give It To Me – Classless Act
On this anniversary of the passing of the great Eddie Van Halen, it’s heartening to hear another great party band out of Southern California. Classless Act absolutely do justice to the long history of fun, upbeat, party rock that Van Halen birthed in Pasadena.

Spider – Takeaway Thieves
“Spider” is off the Takeaway Thieves‘ debut album 9. If you like this one, you’ll dig the full album. It’s gritty rock at its best.

Trip The Light Fantastic – Tora Tora
Tora Tora needs no introduction to CGCM listeners. The bluesy “Trip The Light Fantastic” is a worthy addition to their catalogue. Listen to it along with “Fearless” from Joyous Wolf.

Long Live Rock n’ Roll – Lÿnx
Songs about rock and roll have been around since the beginning, and they never get old. Lÿnx absolutely delivers and the drums on this one are exceptional!

Athena – Plush
I saw Plush at Rocklahoma and “Athena” had the crowd bouncing. Put it on and turn it way up. This band is the real deal.
You Keep Me Hanging – Tapper & Bridge
Tapper & Bridge is Lee Tapper and Darran Bridge, and they’ve come for your ears. “You Keep Me Hanging” is a great rock track exuding an old-school feel with modern production.
Holding On – SkeleToon
On first listen, I had no idea what to do with SkeleToon, but their succinct self-description of “Nerd Metal Superheroes” helped make sense of what I was hearing. “Holding On” is the first single off the upcoming album The 1.21 Gigawatts Club. It’s a power metal tribute to the classic Back to the Future movie, and it’s one hell of a ride.
