STADIUM TOUR – Edmonton

Well, it was 2 ½ to 3 long years in the making to make this tour go off due to Covid-19 affecting the world. But after that long, you could not hold the fans back from this tour any longer. They started to show up at the Common Wealth Stadium well before 1:00 pm in the afternoon and the doors were not opening until 4:00 pm. The crowd was of all ages, from young kids to the guys and girls who grew up with all these bands. Once the doors opened the fans rushed into the stadium. To the merch tables and to the beer gardens of course, as it was scorching hot out with a temperature well above 30 degrees Celsius.

This is the rock n roll tour of the summer that everyone has been talking about and waiting for. And it was finally here in Edmonton, Alberta the third last tour stop. Edmonton, AB and Toronto Ont along with some dates in the USA were late additions to the tour schedule but nonetheless, the tickets were bought up in no time.

Classless Act

The first opening band for this mega tour is a band called Classless Act. A new and upcoming band that will for sure keep rock n roll alive. The band has had success thus far and Vince Neil has lent his vocals to one of the band’s tracks. So not too bad of a start to your musical career when Vince Neil lends his chops to your CD. The band has energy, to say the least, bouncing from one side of the stage to the other. They had their work cut out for them as they know who they are opening up for, some of the greatest rock n rollers that have could from the 70s and 80s. They had a short set but made the most of it and seemed to win over the crowd who was here to see the veteran acts.

Joan Jett

Well, what can you say when you have Joan Jett on your tour? This lady has been rocking fans for decades around the globe and shows no signs of slowing down. Joan Jett has been belting out hit songs since the 70s. And she is as cool as they come, dressed in all-black leather with the “tough chick” look. She took to the stage like a superstar giving it all she had. Joan played to the crowd like a true professional getting the fans singing and clapping along to all her hits. She has no shortage of classic Joan Jett tunes, and she made sure that she belted through what she could in the time they allowed for her set.

Being the first time I have ever seen Joan Jett play I can say that she leaves it all out on the stage and she is 100% Rock N Roll…

Poison

Here you have it the Glam Rockers of the ’80s. Poison was new blood on the musical scene back in the early 80s and they had a fresh look no one had seen before. They took the music scene by storm, they had numerous hit singles and albums throughout the years. And in Edmonton, they were there to show that they are not going to fade quietly into the night. Even though they have not released new music since 2008, they are still here to have one hell of a party.

Bret Michaels with his high energy and jumping around the stage gets the crowd fired up for sure. You have CC Deville shredding on his guitar like a madman throughout the show. CC Deville played homage to Eddie Van Halen at the end of his guitar solo which was killer to see and hear.  The band sounded tight and never missed and beat on any of their tunes. Bret Michaels, CC Deville and Bobby Dall ripped around the stage like Tasmanian Devils while Rikki Rockett kept the back to himself, pounding away on the drums like a madman.

Def Leppard

Def Leppard roared onto the British music scene back in the late ’70s into the early ’80s. They came over to the USA in the early 80s and took the music scene by storm with amazing licks and guitar riffs that were new sounding. They have used legendary music producers for some of their most legendary albums which shot them to superstardom. And again in Edmonton, they were there to prove just because they have gotten older does not mean they are going to slow down anytime soon.

Def Leppard cranked out the classic hits along with some tunes that they recently released on a new CD.  They have travelled over the world again and again delighting fans with the classics and new tunes they have released. But they are veterans and know that the classics are what the crowd wants to hear. Leppard does slow it down for a couple of songs mid-set and plays a couple of acoustic tunes allowing all the band to be out front of the crowd. But after those couple acoustic songs, it’s time to fire up the machine again and rock everyone’s face off again which they did in Edmonton.

Motley Crue

Well, Motley Crue closed out the night and what can you say? They were there to Rock! Yes, they said they were going to retire and the only way they would come back is if all 4 original members wanted to do it. Well, they proved they want to be there in Edmonton.

We have all heard the online chatter about the ongoing vocal issues from Vince Neil. Well, I can say this is one of the best performances I have heard from Vince. He was all over the stage, bouncing around engaging with the crowd and looked extremely happy to be on stage with his three other brothers in arms. They tore through their classic catalogue of music and played the one new song they released for the movie The Dirt. They completed a mash-up of songs that they used to play in clubs when they were first trying to make it onto the music scene.

We, of course, had Nikki Sixx come out onto the ramp and chat with the crowd about how good was to be back and that they were not going to be going away for a long time. Tommy Lee delighted the crowd again by coming out from behind the drum kit and wanting to see the “titties” of Edmonton. And also mentioned the trouble he has been getting into with posting himself naked on Twitter.  He asked the females in the crowd if they wanted to see and jokingly said they already saw him on his Twitter account.

They continued their onslaught of classic tunes to the delight of the fans. They did slow it down and played “Home Sweet Home” which appeared to be a crowd favourite. But after the brief slow down, they punched back again into high gear to close out the night. The only thing missing from this set was the pyro from the classic Motley Crue shows but I’m sure it will be back soon!
