The grand masters of heavy funk rock, Electric Boys, are back with a new swinging album. Their last two albums have had great songs but I think it lacked the groove that we are used to hearing from The Boys. I am really happy to hear it again on this album.
It flies out of the starting blocks with “When Life Treats You Funky” which has an old-school sound as from the album Groovus Maximus from 1992. A little snippet from The Beatles‘ song “Hey Jude” appears in the end with some “Na Na Na Na“. Very cool.
“Better Safe Than Sober” is a stomping rocker with a great solo in the middle. Sounds classic EB again. Overall it has a really fat and heavy sound on the album which is recorded in Palma on Mallorca.
“I’ve Got A Feelin’” is more of the melodic pop/rock vein with a great chorus that has a real summer feeling to it. A little more laidback song comes next in “And The Band Played On – Part 1” with a cool banjo sound in the background. This has an early ’70s feel to it.
Picking up the tempo again with “Domestic Blitz” with soaring guitars and pumping bass. “Karma’s Gonna Get You” takes us back to the early EB days again. Could have been on the two first albums. A great song that I think can be really good in a live setting.
“Missed Her By A Minute” is a bit softer more straight-on pop/rock song and has a really good chorus with a great melody. Back to the groovy songs again with “Learjet“. It is the most experimental song on the album but with a great riff in the chorus.
Another funky gem comes in the cool “Cozmic Jagger“. Great groove and nice breakdown before a great solo.
The album closes with the uptempo song “The Great Believer” and the Beatles-esque outro “And The Band Played On – Part 2“.
Electric Boys have made a great album with great songs and a great groove. You can hear that they have had fun when they made it. If you like the early sound of Electric Boys you will find plenty of good songs here.
