CHERRY ST. – Twisted, Rude & Sticky Sweet (Album Review)

Cherry St. Twisted, Rude & Sticky Sweet Album ArtDemos and unreleased tracks aren’t always a bad thing unless they are being sold by bootleggers.  As a result, bands consequently suffer for it. Unfortunately for Cherry St., Twisted, Rude & Sticky Sweet happened to fall right into that category.

A Background Story

Twisted, Rude & Sticky Sweet begins and goes back to 1993. This is before the band was signed to JRS/BMG. The band discovered that these tracks were being sold by a Russian Bootlegger on Ebay for around $140.00. This wasn’t acceptable. With this purpose in mind, the band decided to release these tracks themselves. With attention to improved sound, and better-quality photos. It was what the Cherry St. fans deserved. Without a doubt, it will put a stop to those damned bootleggers.

A Little History

Cherry St. was formed by Michigan native TomMonroeMathers and Don ‘Spinner’ Korbeki in 1989 after finding Chris Van Dahl and ToddTazAnthony. They released a 3 song demo that sold over 8000 units worldwide and got featured on MTV’s Pay to Play segments along with Guns N Roses, Bang Tango, and Warrant. With the addition of Jaimie Scott on bass, and Marc Razzle on drums just after the release of that 3 song demo, they headlined infamous strip spots like Gazzari’s, Whiskey a Go-Go, Troubadour, and the Roxy.

We all should keep in mind that these tracks are demos and unreleased material. That however doesn’t detract from the fact that this is an album of some kickass rock.

The songs ooze hairspray and sweat. Just enough however to make you wish you were back in the days of the “Hair Metal” (yes I used that term) heyday.

Songs like “Hell Raiser”, “Push and Shove”, “Spinner”, and “Soft and Slow”, are just a few that keep the listener engrossed for the whole 36-minute journey. Even the ballad, “Now and Darkness” gets its hooks into you deep with its haunted tone and style.

Come and Get It

We at the CGCM keep saying it, over and over again. Support the artists! Even years after the fact, when unreleased albums get to finally see the light of day. It should still be supported. This provides fans with music at a way better quality than any bootleg ever will. This is what the folks over at Perris Records (where this album is available from) understand. The fact that Perris Records was started by Cherry St. founder and member, Tom Mathers.

Psychotic Thoughts

Cherry St. is a fun band to listen to. Here is hoping the sales of their past catalog inspires them to play together again in some form, and that they come out with something new in the future with the vibe they are known for. Some of us might have missed them back in the day. CGCM is here to make damn sure we won’t be missing anything from them this time around!
