Baroness brought the sold-out or almost sold-out show to the infamous Rickshaw Theater in Vancouver, BC last night. Baroness who are apparently famous for helping out new and upcoming bands brought out on the Canadian tour with them two eastern Canadian bands last night. As the night progressed and time drew closer for Baroness to hit the stage you could feel the hot sweaty club atmosphere as more and more people packed into the theatre.
This was a treat for me as I had never listened to or seen Baroness live before so I was unsure what to expect. I am always in search of new good music that I might have missed. And that is what the Rickshaw Theatre brings is a lot of small bands that are really good and play the club circuits with a large underground following. So before the show, I had a lot of research to do and listening online to see what I was in for. And I enjoyed what I saw and heard last night and so did the crowd at the Rickshaw Theatre.
Baroness is what is considered to be a progressive/alternative metal band out of Savannah, Georgia formed in 2003. Baroness has gone through numerous member changes throughout the years with John Baizley (Vocals, Rhythm Guitar) being the only original member of the band. The current lineup is Nick Jost (Bass, Keyboards), Sebastian Thomson (Drums), and Gina Gleason (Lead Guitar).
Baroness cherry-picked the crowd favourites from their album releases over the years. Baroness has released six solid albums ranging from their very first release in 2007 Red Album to their most current release 2023 Stone. They captured songs in the setlist from Red Album, Purple, Gold & Grey to the most current Stone. The setlist last night kept the crowd on their feet clapping, dancing, and moshing for some songs, and you could always catch someone in the crowd throwing up the “Devil’s Horns”.
