VOODOMA – Hellbound (Album Review)

VOODOMA - Hellbound (Album Review)
VOODOMA – Hellbound

My love for music goes deep. Ever since I can remember as a child the profound impact it had on me, more so when I turned a teenager. I had already established a large repertoire by the time most were beginning to find what they already like. The reason I start off writing about myself before I do Voodoma‘s review on their Hellbound album is that I want you to understand why I got hooked on these guys right away.

Back in high school many of us were divided by class. There were Rockers, Punks, Preppies, Nerds and Goths….

Admiringly it was not until I moved to Montreal that my taste for Goth got stronger, I remember hanging around with friends that were only listening to that genre, while I was headbanging to Metallica, Megadeth, Guns and Roses etc.

Voodoma brought me back to that era in my life, I was listening to Sisters of Mercy, The Cure, Cocteau Twins, Front 242, Skinny Puppy, Type O’ Negative and many more.

Voodoma does something even better, they are bringing back that old Goth Metal with a fresh modern sound. As I listen to the music from Voodoma‘s “Into the Deep“, I get entranced with their sound and I absolutely enjoy everything I am hearing.

Voodoma are:

-Michael Thionville – vocals

-Mikk Hollenberg – guitars

-KeysPierre Liffers – bass

-Dr. Doom – drums

Straight out of Düsseldorf Germany, Voodoma brings their magic on their latest studio album Hellbound. This dark, Goth Rock style is very catchy and fun to listen to. HAHAHAHA I said fun to listen to, I should say really enjoyable. The music production is produced & mixed by Mikk Hollenberg. The mastering was handled by Chris Beyerlein at Stem Masters in Nürnberg, Germany. Artwork designed by Martina Peschel. Recorded at Doomsday Club Studio in Düsseldorf.

The whole album is excellent, Mikk Hollenberg did an amazing job. It is so far the best thing I’ve heard in 2022. You might say: the year just started… but I already listened to about 30 new releases or soon to be released. This is a strong sign that Voodoma will be in my Top Ten List at the end of the year.

Here is the Song list

1. Silent Scream,
2. We Are The Lost
3. Salems Hell,
4. Where Is The Light In You,
5. Into The Deep,
6. Save Me,
7. Hellbound,
8. Hand Of Fate,
9. Angel X,
10. Sandman

I personally have a hard time choosing a favourite song. “Silent Scream” is a great opener for the album. Yet “Into the Deep” really speaks to me and “Sandman” is such a great finisher

Voodoma Hellbound from Pride and Joy Music is now available to purchase. So if you’re into Heavy Goth Rock,  this one is for you.
