In 2009, guitarist Filippa Nässil, wanted to establish a genuine rock ‘n’ roll band and formed a monster called Thundermother. The next 15 years brought the band several lineup changes, but the mission statement of the band has remained with the same purpose: to bring pure, in-your-face Rock and Roll to the masses.
Some might find it important to mention that Thundermother is an all-female band; the members don’t let this be their calling card, although they are proud to stand amongst many other great female bands. These girls can hold their own against any band out there these days and have proven it by standing on some of the biggest festival stages happening today, and Dirty & Divine continues that legacy.
The Dirty Side
The latest release from Thundermother is titled Dirty & Divine and brings ten new tracks for the fans to enjoy. Not only that, it also brings us the newest rendition of Thundermother with the introduction of its two newest members, vocalist Linnea Vikström Egg and drummer Joan Massing, joining Nässil and bassist Majsan Lindberg. Kicking the album off with a raw and excited guitar riff is “So Close“. This is a track that immediately brings the listeners into the rhythm and vibe of the album. Egg‘s vocals coexist perfectly with the gritty rock on this track.
“Can’t Put Out the Fire” has an anthemic chorus that could bring to mind another hard-rocking sister female duo band that can be listed at the top of the rock world also. “Speaking of the Devil” is yet another mid-tempo rocker that highlights Egg‘s voice, but there are times on the album when it seems like she is trying to push herself into uncomfortable areas that her voice doesn’t like to be in.
With a more of a different vibe, the next track, “Feeling Alright”, tends to lean toward a more traditional rock sound. With this one, we get a more ‘80s rock vibe with a light-hearted guitar tone and simple sing-along lyrics. Back to a more edge guitar riff and driving drums is “Take The Power”. Egg comes across in this track as angry and pissed off, to be frank. To be honest, I feel that this is a filler track with some great musicianship, but it leaves something to be desired in the vocal side of things.
Side of The Divine
“I Left My License In The Future” was the very first single released from Dirty & Divine, showcasing the new lineup. This is a great track to do just that. A hard-hitting track with a killer guitar solo, rhythmic drums and just a fun track to rock out to. This next track almost suggests a D.A.D. influence or vibe with the guitar sound throughout. “Dead or Alive” has a more subdued vocal track and seems to be a good range for Egg’s vocals. “Can You Feel It” has a hard-hitting sound but with just a little tinge of a Country-Rock vibe in its underbelly. Think Sass Jordan meets AC/DC on this one.
The latest single from the Thunderous Girls is “Bright Eyes”. This would be yet another single from the album, making the album more than 50% singles. This is a simple mid-tempo track with that typical Thundermother sound and feel. Lastly on the album is “American Adrenaline”. This is a straight-up typical Thundermother track. Great guitar on this one, and it is sure to be a live staple track. Filippa shines on this one.
Psychotic Thoughts
I am always happy to hear some new Thundermother music, and I will honestly be looking forward to their next album as well. I will admit that I have a little bias here because I truly think that their last effort, Black and Gold, was the absolute best album that they had put forth yet and that the band was the tightest it had been. With that being said, I’d still give Dirty & Divine a solid 7 out of 10, and with time and solidarity, may the next album be a 10 out of 10!

Peace!
