Day two hearing the Call Of The Wild! I, CGCM Rock Radio‘s Rich “The Meister” Dillon, am here on site in Lincoln UK for the 2024 edition of this awesome festival.
Today launched off in fine style with Ransom. This band has really become a favourite of mine. I didn’t quite get it when I saw them the first time at an HRH event, but last year at Call Of The Wild they absolutely ruined the Trailblazer tent stage with an incredible rock show. Now several of their songs are in CGCM Rock Radio‘s regular rotation and I often play “Even Nuns Watch Porn” in my show. Love it! Their most recent songs are a cut above and the best they’ve done IMO. The newest one is “Predator” and it’s another blistering rocker. This morning as the first band of the day at 11:30am, they’ve done it again on the big stage! They slapped the sleepiness out of the COTW crowd in today’s breakfast show.
Ransom led the charge with “Vindicated” and “Strap Yourself In” following quickly behind. Down in the photo pit, I clicked away capturing the stage action as best I could. My photo gallery appears at the bottom of this blog. Vocalist and frontman Matt Fielder covered the entire stage floor in non-stop motion. Stand still you bastard, so I can get a photo…lol! He was doing a great job of pulling the crowd in. And he’s quite light-hearted and funny during his stage chatter as well. He took to the mic after “Strap Yourself In” announcing, “Well, now that I’ve done up my fly (which had been open since the start of the set)! A little treat for the ladies….and maybe even some of the men!“
Nuns And Porn?
My favourite earworm of late, “Even Nuns Watch Porn” was served up next with “Little Green Eyed Monster” tight on its heels, including a monster mask. With more crowd banter, Matt then spotted some Scottish guys up front. “These guys are crazy,” he stated. “Up drinking till 4am. How you feeling? Their punishment is to watch Ransom…lol“. An issue with the guitar sees Matt extending the chat and having the crowd sing “Happy Birthday” to a young girl as today was her day. Matt also commented on supporting community and rock n roll, by hanging out all weekend and watching bands.
Once things were back in order it was “Enter The Dragon” next on the list, a little more thrashy sort of a track. Not a super fave of mine. But then they ripped into the newest single “Predator“. Funny, as it happens, I was the first radio station to play “Predator” on my last radio show before COTW! What an awesome song. Vocalist Matt Fielder‘s tribute to Bon Scott, an updated “Night Prowler“. Ransom wrapped up their “Breakfast Set” with “Back to the Boozer” off the 2022 album of the same name.
Another awesome Ransom show. I’ve seen a few now, but always on a small stage. This was the first on a large festival stage and this is where Ransom belongs! The little pub band that could?
