CGCM Rock Radio New Singles – March 16, 2021 (BEAVER BUZZ)

Buzzsaw is no different than most dudes, when it comes to an anniversary, birthday, or other celebration with the women in his life, he can be a bit forgetful. That’s why the Beaver Buzz tribute to International Women’s Day is a tad tardy, even if he doesn’t feel tardy.

It really is amazing to see how far women have come in rock and roll. There were some greats in the 70s and 80s: Heart, Joan Jett, Pat Benetar, Wendy O Williams, Doro, Lita Ford, Lee Aaron, Vixen, and others. But they were heavily outnumbered. In 2021 though, rock and metal bands are brimming with women. Just in this one week, it was easy to pull together new singles from women-fronted bands. Already in 2021, Beaver Buzz has featured music from Cobra Cult, The Metal Byrds, Jax Hollow, Jo Below, The Mercy Kills, Plush, and more.

Deal With Me – The Dead Deads

Deal With Me” is a total hook fest and I can’t stop listening to this song. With lyrics like “Deal with me/Rising up like a Kaiju“, the song better be big, and this one is huge.  The Dead Deads revived and revisited this song, adding horns and maybe a touch more, but it’s new to me. Full of attitude and swagger, this is a song that will be remembered long past 2021.

Deal With Me” is off Tell Your Girls It’s Alright available this summer.

Love Will Come Easy – Heavy Feather

As fuzzy as a baby kitten, the riffs draw you in and the bluesy, so smooth vocals of Lisa Lystam hook you. “Love Will Come Easy” raises the bar on modern roots rock. If you love your 70s rock on the heavier side, but not quite Sabbath, Heavy Feather fits the bill.

Love Will Come Easy” is off Mountain of Sugar available April 9.

The Road Is Ours – Thundermother

Thundermother continues to ride the big waves and, as Diamond Dave once said, “When you’re surfing 40 footers you don’t need no tricks.” They’re not exploring new territory here, just showing the rest of the planet how to play rock and roll. We even have a “Guitar!” introduced solo, and how much more steeped in rock can you get? Thundermother is definitely one of the best rock bands on the planet making music right now.

The Road Is Ours” is off Heat Wave – Deluxe Edition available May 21, 2021.

Queen of the Avant-Garde – RETRA

RETRA is the latest incarnation of the L.A. band Glam Skank. They may have dropped Glam from the name, but glam is what “Queen of the Avant-Garde” is all about. The song just begs to be played live with a big production.

Queen of the Avant-Garde” is available now.

Better Than Love – Chez Kane

Chez Kane rolls out another sugary dose of 80s pop-rock.

Once again, Kane nails it. She’s got the voice, the look, and the attitude to pull it off.

It captures the time so perfectly that if you played this for people who grew up in the 80s, you might get a few who pretend they know it.

Heart Of Rock N’ Roll – Janina Jade

Janina Jade mixes the sleaze of Michael Monroe, the attitude of Lemmy, and blues-drenched guitar work from Jennifer Batten. It’s really hard to describe, maybe GnR meets Bonnie Raitt? Like most good recipes, ultimately it’s far greater than the sum of the ingredients.

Heart Of Rock N’ Roll” is off the album of the same name dropping March 26.

Into the Crypt – The Crypt

The Crypt is fronted by The Queen Of The Damned and have dubbed themselves “the hottest unsigned band on the planet.” As you must have guessed, they’re a horror metal band. “Into the Crypt” features killer riffs and has an old-school metal feel to it. Moody and dark, it’s a promising introduction to this mysterious band.

Into the Crypt” is available now, just be careful when asked to pay the suggested price of 666 SEK.
