CGCM Rock Radio New Singles – February 2, 2021 (BEAVER BUZZ)

It’s Groundhog Day! Legend says that the fate of the winter depends on whether Buzzsaw Beaver saw his shadow or not. By now you’ll know what happened: six more weeks of freezing, gray winter, or we get an early spring. Whatever happened, all I know for sure is that it resulted in seven loud new songs on CGCM Rock Radio from Kickin Valentina, The Metal Byrds, Wig Wam, Saber, Accept, Maverick, and W.E.T.

Kickin Valentina – War

Kickin Valentina took over the studio last week and left behind all sorts of treats. “War” is a kick-ass, “Steel toe boots to the nether regions” as perfectly described by Trevor “Psycoone” McDougal. It’s a fist raiser for sure and refuses to leave my playlists!

War” is off the Revenge of Rock album available now. Get it!

The Metal Byrds – Impossible

It’s no secret that The Metal Byrds is one of my favourite new bands. From that opening guitar riff courtesy of Sly Rye, to the bass groove, and then the amazing vocals from Suzanne Birdie. “Impossible” is impossibly catchy. This band is going to be on a lot of top lists for years to come.

Impossible” is off the EP Life in 20 that’s available for you to own right now.

Wig Wam – Never Say Die

Never Say Die” is hard and fast, totally melodic, and a powerful song from open to close. If you like this, which you will, check out the great review Sparky wrote of the whole album. Having these guys back after the years is one of the finest gifts of 2021.

Never Say Dieis off the album of the same name that you can get from the links below.

Saber – Without Warning

Saber - Without Warning

Who’s up for some fast, dual guitar, falsetto vocals trash? I know I sure as hell am. This song just nails that killer classic thrash sound. It’s dirty and gritty and screams to be played loud. My elbows are flying here just listening and writing about it.

Without Warning is off the album of the same name that you can listen to, buy, and follow at Bandcamp.

Accept – The Undertaker

Too Mean to Die is getting so much buzz right now, and the “Undertaker” is a perfect example of why. Tom Cornell explains more in his review. The song showcases what Accept does best: pounding guitars, clever songwriting, Mark Tornillo‘s ridiculous range, and that unshakable groove.

Undertaker” is off the Too Mean to Die record out right now.

Maverick – The Last One

After featuring “Switchblade Sister” I was expecting another hard-driving rocker. Instead what I heard was a genuinely poignant song that’s super well-written and performed impeccably. I think if you give “The Last One” a couple of listens, you’ll be hooked on it too. They tap into common emotions of loss and love, last done as well by Mammoth WVH on “Distance“.

The Last One” is off the Ethereality album expected in April 2021.

W.E.T – Big Boys Don’t Cry

Jeff Scott Soto, Erik Mårtensson, and Robert Såll show up just as you would expect them to, at their melodic best. “Big Boys Don’t Cry” has a great hook. If catchy as hell is your type of thing, this one will definitely fit the bill.

Big Boys Don’t Cry” is off Retransmission available right now.

Wizard – Metal In My Head

Mighty is the adjective I’m looking for here. Wizard has been pounding out fist-raising, anthemic metal for years and “Metal In My Head” is exactly that. There are thousands of metal songs about the glories of metal, and you can throw this one to the upper echelons of that playlist.

Metal In My Head” is off the album of the same name on February 19.

Cobra Spell – Poison Bite

Lastly, we have for you some killer glam metal with some really great guitar work. Sonia Anubis and Sebastian “Spyder” Silva twin guitars elevate this track and, hopefully, the entire EP. After this gem, I’m looking forward to the full release.

Poison Bite” is off the EP Love Venom arriving on April 9.
