And last week reality came crashing in when I suddenly realized that it was time to stop saying and thinking, “Yes I’m going to that festival” and start acting. Within the blink of an eye the time was upon me! Where did that time go? How did I lose those days? No matter, it’s time to rock and for that I’m always ready. TBH, I never even stop!
2024 will be my first attendance at Muskelrock Festival. This is a small, independent festival nestled in a small amusement park called Tyrolen near Alvesta, Sweden. To get there I will be flying into Gothenburg airport and then a beautiful friend (Mr. Antony Olsson) will pick me up for the approx 2hr journey from Gothenburg to Alvesta. There we will, I imagine, make a stop for supplies (ie: beer) at the local supermarket. And then it’s on to the festival grounds, a mere 7km away, to pitch my tent….errr erect my tent? Neither sounds good….lol.
Muskelrock has been flying the flag for traditional metal since 2009. They specialize in the smaller more underground bands of the scene. Just what I love! The 2024 poster boasts names from around the world and includes a few bands I love yet have never seen live before. Belgians Ostrogoth tie the top of that list with Trance out of Germany. Both bands I’ve listened to for many years, so it will be a real treat to get the live experience as well.
But that’s not all, there are a total of about 40 bands playing across the three festival days. Some I have investigated online and liked what I’ve heard. Some I’ve already been familiar with either through posting album release news or listening to the albums. But I’d judge that most are completely new to me and I fully expect to fall in love with more than a few over the weekend! Time to raise a beer and bang thy head!
Muskelrock takes place May 30th – June 1st at Tyrolen Amusement Park near Alvesta, Sweden. Weekend tix are still available and quite cheap as well. They even include camping which helps keep my costs down! If you can’t join me, keep it in mind for 2025.
