LOZ CAMPBELL – COTW 2024 (Spotlight Blog)

LOZ CAMPBELL - COTW 2024 (Spotlight Blog)I have once again heard the Call Of The Wild! That’s right, I, CGCM Rock Radio‘s RichThe MeisterDillon is on site in Lincoln UK for the fourth installment of this great festival.

While there have been so many awesome bands here on the first official day of the event, a couple really stood out to me! The first one of those is Loz Campbell. Loz played not one, but two shows even and both were fantastic. I had seen Loz before at an HRH event. At that time I knew nothing about the young lady nor her band and music. But I was captivated. Since then her music, namely “Bad Girl“, “Coffee Cup” and recently “Can’t Get Enough” has been featured on the CGCM Rock Radio airwaves as a part of our regular rotation. Not to mention my personal radio show on which I’ve played Loz a few times!

SET #1

Set number one for Loz was the opening slot as the very first band of COTW 2024. Not counting the VIP party last night of course. I tend to call this slot the breakfast show. And Loz had quite a few at her table. Early on in the set Loz and her band blew through “Bad Girl“, “Coffee Cup” and “Can’t Get Enough” along with some other belters that I didn’t know the titles of. Both Loz and the band were on fire! The bassist was especially engaging and quite entertaining to witness on stage. I’m not sure of the band makeup or lineup changes, but it was a young lady on bass when I saw Loz at HRH.

Who wants a free t-shirt?Loz called out as a brightly colour-haired gent hurled 5 rolled t-shirts into the crowd. The new single I believe unreleased as yet was a treat. “Hitting The Free Road” to me showcased a little bit of a bluesy side to it. Next up was an older one, recently brought back Loz stated. “My Motivation” sounded awesome and a little bit heavier as well! I need to get that onto the station as well off the Green Eyes album. Loz and her band closed the short Breakfast Set with “Generic Girl” off the Green Eyes (2017) album. What a fun and rockin’ way to open Call Of The Wild 2024. Thanks Loz Campbell!…..

….But wait, there’s more…..

SET #2

The second set for Loz Campbell went off at 4pm or so. Unfortunately, this show took place in the Trailblazer tent. Not much beating around the bush here….that tent pretty much sucks. The roof is low, the lighting awful and the sound is horrific (some bands were better sound-wise than others). But it is what it is, and some awesome bands have played there, like Loz Campbell. I arrived a bit late…..who knows what I was into that caused that…lol. Might have missed one song, not too sure.

I didn’t recognize anything song-wise until Loz and band launched into “Bad Girl” followed by “Coffee Cup“. Loz showed some humour as well when she announced “Coffee Cup” as a song off “our new CD which is over there somewhere in a field. No one’s looking after it, so if you want to nick it up, go for it! Otherwise we’ll be there after the show.” “Beautiful Liar” came next as Loz herself constantly struggled with her in-ear monitor falling out all set long. During the next song, Loz showed her beautiful smile as she jokingly gave the bassman the finger, laughing. Small act, but it really helped identify with the performers. “Can’t Get Enough” was dedicated to those who were up early for their festival opening show. “Hitting The Free Road” would be my final experience with Loz as I had to rush across the field to photograph Dobermann.

Loz Campbell really displayed why she’s an artist on the rise today at COTW. She’s actually been around for ten years with her first release in 2014! My photo gallery from both sets appears below…my best Loz Campbell and band photos from each set 🙂
