LONDON – Call That Girl (Album Review)

Anyone that should be reading this or listening to the type of music we like here at the CGCM must know who LONDON is. The infamous names that have been associated with this group, such as Nikki Sixx, Blackie Lawless, and Fred Coury are enough to pique your interest. One cannot claim that LONDON is a mainstream band by any means. You, however, cannot mention the famous “Strip” bands without mentioning them in the conversation.

Even though they haven’t ever hit the market like W.A.S.P., or Motley Crue did, they haven’t gone away. Actually, their first album in ten years on VAMPSWORLDWIDE Media titled Call That Girl with ten new tracks to satisfy your eardrums.

The Album

London is still rocking and rolling with a Hard Rock sound that shows even after all these years, the guys in the band can still play, and play well. A lot of the tracks here aren’t the stale sound you would expect from a band that has been around since 1978 but feature many great harmonic sounding riffs, mixed with keyboards, and percussion that can fit right in with many of today releases. With more than 19 band member changes over the years, and a few hiatuses, lead singer, Nadir D’Priest brings the newest formation of London to your house on whatever format you like to listen on.

The track I enjoyed the most, is actually the title track, “Call That Girl.” The track has a groove that is seemingly infectious and had me hitting repeat right after I listened for the first time. With a sing-a-long chorus, ear melting guitar licks, and a drum beat to pound your head to in old school fashion, I had to listen twice!

Final Thoughts

Although London may not be to everyone’s forte, they are a historical factor in the music we all love. Some have even labeled them in the movie The Decline of Western Civilization Pt.II, a “Stepping Stone Band” you cannot deny the talent here. It’s just a fun band to have in your home collection to throw on once in a while, and just enjoy the memories.

Peace!
