INFECTED RAIN – At Glasgow Garage (Concert Review)

INFECTED RAIN - At Glasgow Garage (Concert Review)
Infected Rain Live In The Glasgow Garage

At the somewhat almost silly time of 6:20pm, Infected Rain took to the stage of the Garage in Glasgow. Performing their first-ever show in Scotland and only their second ever in the UK! Being on so early (the venue has a curfew and it was a 3 band bill) meant that the room was a little sparse when they bounded onstage. There was a decent group down the front who were in early specifically to see them. As their all too short set went on it busied up, with the newcomers quite quickly getting into them. By the second last song, I could see from the balcony at the side that the audience participation was reaching even the back of the room with hands in the air clapping along.

The band was missing a guitarist due to passport problems. So they were joined onstage for their set by Diego Cavalotti from headliners Lacuna Coil. Their set gave us songs from 3 of their 4 albums with latest Endorphin featured most with 4 tracks. “Mold” got things going nicely. At the start, singer Lena was wearing a hoodie with the hood up so it was only guitarist’s Vidick’s dreadlocked hair flying around! That changed of course when the hoodie came off. We were treated to swirling multicoloured dreads moving around all over the place!

The Music

The music starts very tribal with some powerful screams at times. But allowing quieter moments showing off that Lena can not only growl and scream but sing very sweetly at times. “Passerby” got a pretty immediate reaction from those in the building. This suggests that a number have the new album or at least had checked them out beforehand on youtube. It grooves and kicks like a mule and live it boots you in the bollocks (if you have them…). “Lure” lyrically was spat out with a sneer and a wave of anger that suited the lyrics down to the ground.

Due to the short time they had Lena didn’t say that much. Only stopping a couple of times to let us know just how bloody pleased they were to be playing in Scotland for the first time. And to let folks know where they were from in case anyone didn’t know. The energy levels were high and the movement and stage presence were top-notch from a band that has been working hard for a number of years in other parts of the world. By the time they played the excellent “The Earth Mantra” (check out the video, it is superb) the crowd had swelled. From my vantage point, I could see that even those at the back were getting into the show and band.

Infected Rain Impress

I can safely say that Infected Rain picked up a fair few fans on the night in just chatting with folks near me as well as with the crowd’s reaction. Despite being a member down and having a temporary replacement they opened the night very well getting the crowd warmed up for the bands to follow. I just hope that they can organize their own tour where they can do a full set sometime in the near future. Good work all round!
