Helix brought the R.O.C.K. back to the Grey Eagle Casino on August 16th,2024. The nearly sold-out crowd was in for an evening of fun-filled hits from this iconic 80’s hard rock band. Helix in the early 80’s and 90’s set the stage for bands trying to make it onto the music scene. Helix has been relentless and touring the music scene throughout the years since and always brings and energy-packed show.
Helix‘s current touring members are Brian Vollmer (Lead Vocals), Jamie Constant (Drums), Daryl Gray (Bass), Mark Chichkan (Guitar), and Chris Julke (Guitar). Brian Vollmer being the last original member of the band seems extremely grateful for the throngs of fans that show up for shows while they are on tour. Brian Vollmer shows his gracious gratitude for the fans by coming out and meeting the fans prior to the show or after the show at the merchandise booth.
Brian Vollmer being 69 years young does not show his age at all when he hits the stage. He is a whirlwind of energy, while belting out the tunes he is all over the stage, spinning, dancing dropping to his knees. He has an amazing frontman charisma, always including the fans shaking hands, fist bumping or whatever it might be. Not taking away from other members of the band he always allows them to shine in their own light and makes sure by the end of the night you know their names and how long they have been in the band. Mark Chichkan and Chris Julke shred throughout the night on the classic Helix hits, never missing a note. Jamie Constant and Daryl Gray keep the tempo with the drums and bass all night long too. The band runs like a machine never missing a note or a beat.
Helix tore through their catalogue of hits and had the fans at the front of the stage dancing and singing throughout the night. The entire venue was on their feet clapping and singing along to these hits that were their youth. You could even see in the back of the event center people piling into the aisle way to dance and party like it was the early 80s again. The crowd transcended through a mixture of age groups from people in their 40s to 50s all the way down to a 6-year-old who Brian Vollmer had brought on stage and put him up on his shoulders while he danced and sang through the song ”Heavy Metal Cowboy”.
Everyone’s kids were rockin’ in Calgary at the Grey Eagle Casino.
