**This is my story. My personal journal account of time at the festival, my thoughts and feelings. HEAVY PETTIN at Time To Rock 2025
Another largely anticipated highlight for me at Time To Rock 2025 was Heavy Pettin! Listening to Heavy Pettin for years, I first saw them on MORC (whatever year that was) and they blew it away. Today, they seemed to be about 10 minutes late in getting going, but once they did, the sound was on point. The first song of the set was “Victims Of The Night” lifted from the halfway point of the 1983 Lettin Loose album. And I was in my glory down in the photo pit.
From there, they turned to ’85’s Rock Ain’t Dead and ripped through both the title track and “China Boy” for my allotted photo pit time. Both guitarists (Dave Aitken & Richie Dews) were quite facially expressive, making for fun photo capturing. I laughed a little to myself, likening the bass player (David Boyce) to Judas Priest as he sort of stood in the back. Though I did get some nice captures of him when he gave me a wicked grimace when stepping forward. And he didn’t really stay back all the time, just my brain going in weird directions! Drummer Mick Ivory completed the ensemble and delivered the thunder from the kit.
LETTIN LOOSE
Back to my fave Heavy Pettin album, Lettin Loose for a sandwich with “Love Times Love” before representing 1989’s Big Bang with “Born To Burn” and then “Shout It Out” completing the Lettin Loose sandwich. We would get one more from Rock Ain’t Dead in “Sole Survivor” before a triple hammer hit of three more from Lettin Loose. “Rock Me“, “In And Out Of Love” and “Hell Is Beautiful“. That would wrap up Heavy Pettin‘s stage time, which also saw vocalist Steven “Haymie” Hayman down on the barrier shaking hands and singing with the crowd.
Heavy Pettin delivered some fantastic and favourite songs from their catalogue, especially “In And Out Of Love“, a fave for me…..but I didn’t hear “Roll Of The Dice“. Not that I expected to, but one can always hope. Also unrepresented was the 2020 4 Play EP, the latest new music from the Scottish band. Great show, a highlight of Friday and the festival in general!
