Headbangers Open Air Festival

I, Rich “The Meister” Dillon, CGCM‘s intrepid traveller am off to another European festival. This time it’s Headbangers Open Air in Germany! Catch my live-to-air radio show with video and interactive chatroom via the MixCloud platform on Friday, July 15, 2022, starting at 6pm EST. I’ll have a segment featuring some HOA bands!

I’m sure many reading this blog can relate to my outset statement here. “Many years ago, I fell in love with a band“. TBH, it’s happened more than once in my lifetime and some, like my last girlfriend🤣, have indeed broken my heart. This band I speak of has not done that, but instead exceeded expectations by not only producing top-quality music consistently but because they are amazing humans. Dare I say they have become friends. I long ago swore that I would see them every chance I get. I’ve failed a few times, let them down when I promised I’d catch a flight. But come hell or high water, I was going to be at their first ever performance in Europe!

Enter the Headbangers Open Air Festival in Brande-Hörnerkirchen, Germany! Ticket purchased but along came covid and things would have to wait. Once the horizon appeared clearer and things began to return to a degree of normalcy, I looked at my overwhelming stack of covid times purchased festival and concert tickets. Headbangers Open Air! Yes! I began to well up with tears imagining seeing Lady Beast from Pittsburgh USA take the stage in a farmer’s field in Germany! But shortly their logo dropped from the poster on Facebook. Turns out long-time daters frontwoman Deb and drummer Adam were getting married and therefore they had to postpone HOA for a year. Hey, that’s a helluva cause to celebrate, and I for one am very happy for them!

And on the upside, there’s a whole whackload of other amazing bands on the HOA roster. If not for Lady Beast, I may never have planned the trip over to this event, so thanks to them! I began to look at the list of acts more closely. Really I’d never looked past a once-over glance before. “Bands, bands, Lady Beast, bands…going🤣“! OMG! Some real bangers on the list! There have been a few adjustments as the months have passed by. Various reasons or another, and the current poster in this blog is not even the final lineup. Leatherwolf, Sacred Reich and Vicious Rumors are off with Venom Inc and Martyr in.

Some first time seeing on stage bands that I’m really excited about are Tygers of Pan Tang, Tytan and at the Warm-Up Party…..Cobra Spell!

Several of these bands I’ve seen before and will love to see again and I’m sure there’ll be some new discoveries as well that will blow me away. It’s all set up for a rockin’ garden party in Germany….and a recon mission so I’ll be a pro next year for Lady Beast.
