On June 22nd, 1986 DIO‘s Sacred Heart Tour rolled into Toronto’s CNE Stadium. It was a magical rock n roll spectacle of epic proportions. It was also the first time I would witness guitar God Graig Goldy onstage beside the greatest singer of all time, Mr. Ronnie James Dio! I have goosebumps just thinking about it.
So when CGCM Rock Radio was offered the chance to interview Craig, my inner sixteen-year-old may have peed a little. Just sayin’. One problem, the Meister was jetting off to some music festival. Knowing my love of all things Dio, he told me to go ahead and fly solo on this episode. Maybe I should stop calling him Assface.
In this interview, we take a walk through the life and career of Craig Goldy. What got him into playing guitar? His time with Rough Cutt and Giuffria. Meeting Dio, being a part of the Hear N Aid “Stars” session. Joining Dio right through to his more recent projects Dream Child and Resurrection Kings.

Also discussed is how he ended up at David Lee Roth‘s house rock climbing with him by the pool and writing some music. Lots of Ritchie Blackmore and Dio stories abound. Craig is incredibly down-to-earth and a warm and genuine soul. His love for Ronnie is apparent and he truly cares about his fans. One of the benefits of being a part of CGCM Rock Radio is getting to occasionally interview a rock hero. I came away feeling like I have a new friend.
