BROTHERS OF METAL – Fimbulvinter (Album Review)

Brothers Of MetalFimbulvinter

AFM Records

Released: November 1, 2024

This is the third album by Swedish Vikingmetal band Brothers Of Metal. They say that third time’s a charm but this band charmed me already on album number two, Emblas Saga.

On this album we get a wider range of songs that covers power metal, heavy metal, southern rock and folk rock. The production sounds huge and Ylva Eriksson sings with more power and punch than before.

The start with “Sowilo” is excellent and it remains excellent through the whole album. Ylva gets a little more space than usual with her vocals and she has a lovely tone in her voice that differs from many other female metal singers.

The song , “Heart Of Stone” is a heavy one in the vein of Dream Evil. “Rivers of Gold” and “Blood Red Skye” have a folklore sound that fits them well.

Heavy Metal Viking” is a more straightforward heavy metal song with a little southern rock touch. One of the songs that stands out soundwise to the others.

The song “Nanna’s Fate” starts as a ballad but evolves into an epic song and Ylva shines on this song. This can be a live favourite.

The last song is the title song “Fimbulvinter” and it is a great power metal song with a great chorus. Almost an ABBA feeling to it in a metal way 😀

This album has a great variation of songs with a great sound and I already rank it as one of my favourite albums of 2024.

Ranking 8/10
