BEYOND THE BLACK – Beyond The Black (Album Blog Review)

BEYOND THE BLACK
BEYOND THE BLACK

Welcome Ladies and Gentlemen, It’s been a while, hasn’t it? It’s a little late now but I wish you all a wonderful 2023 and beyond! I have been rather distracted with life of late and I haven’t done my CGCM duties. For that, I apologize. I’ve listened to a few albums in January and I have to say only three bands really piqued my interest. One of them is Beyond the Black‘s self-titled album. It was released on January 12, 2023.

Beyond the Black is a German Symphonic Metal band formed in 2014 in the city of Mannheim.

The current lineup is composed of:

  • Jennifer Haben – lead vocals, piano, acoustic guitar (2014–present)
  • Chris Hermsdörfer – lead guitar, backing vocals (2016–present)
  • Tobi Lodes – rhythm guitar, backing vocals (2016–present)
  • Kai Tschierschky – drums (2016–present)

I got introduced to Symphonic Metal by listening to Within Temptation and Nightwish. I’ve been hooked since. I just love the combination of an operatic voice with the aggression of Heavy Metal. While going through a list of new 2023 album releases, I came upon Beyond The Black and got immediately hooked. Jennifer Haben‘s beautiful voice is a wonderful treat to the ears. She’s so freaking good, As well as a very talented musician. I love the rhythm and riffs of the band’s songs. If you’re into Symphonic Metal as I am this is a must-buy album for your collection.

The songs set list are as it goes:

1. Is There Anybody Out There

2. Reincarnation

3. Free Me

4. Winter is Coming

5. Into The Light

6. Wide Awake

7. Dancing in the Dark

8. Raise Your Head

9. Not In Our Name

10. Remember Dying

If you asked me to pick a favourite song from this album at this moment it’s pretty hard to pick one. All songs are just really damn good. This is a great road trip album as well. I will definitely check out their back catalogue to see what else they have released in the past.

This album should be a big hit across Europe. The album is wonderfully produced under the label: Nuclear Blast Records

I can imagine this band being very entertaining as a live act. I’ve seen a few of their videos and I love what I saw. I have my fingers crossed for them to travel over to this side of the pond and do a North American tour.

Ladies and Gents, Go out and get a copy of their new album, or purchase their music online. Better yet go see them live and buy their merch.  Beyond the Black‘s self-titled album is worth it, it’s a very solid album from beginning to end.

My final words of the day. Bob Bannister and I started a show on CGCM Rock Radio called Train Wreck. It will air once a month, mostly in the middle of the month. It airs Saturdays at noon, Tuesdays at 4pm and Thursdays at 8am. It is on the same time slot as Bob Bannister‘s Between the Stacks.  I really have to thank Bob for giving me this opportunity to express myself on a radio show, even though I lack the professionalism that he has.  I am also working on the courage to do my own show as well. More to come on that one.

On my last note: Please support your local musicians Go to their shows. They are our future rock stars and we want them to succeed and leave their mark on the world as the bands that we grew up with.

Dr. Tardis out!
