7HY – No Going Back (Album Review)

I personally love the sound that came from the strip back in the day. I mean who doesn’t right? The party never ended and the selection of great music seemed endless. I speak in the past tense but it’s not really over. Not yet!

If you love the sound that I’m talking about don’t worry. It’s still around. It’s new and vibrant in a whole new generation of bands popping up all over the globe. You just have to look around and listen. Preferably right here at the CGCM!

The Review

The band I’m talking about really isn’t “new” but grew from that 80’s melodic/hard rock sound right off the strip. 7HY (or Seven Hard Years if you prefer) grew outta 80’s legends Shy. But we don’t need to tell that story as I’m sure most of you are already familiar. This, however, isn’t a clone of that band. Alan Kelly the former Shy drummer expands on his music capabilities, and partners with Shawn Pelata to bring you a beast of its own. Shawn, the former vocalist of Line of Fire, brings back the harmonics, and sounds of those great 80’s songs with a new, fresh feel.

This being the third release from 7HY it’s no wonder their fans are clamouring for more, and the guys have delivered another stunningly well-recorded album on Lions Pride Music. They truly have risen to newer heights on No Going Back.

Psychoone Final Thoughts

You’re not going to hear any headbanging, slam dancing, Cookie Monster vocals on this one. It’s straight ahead melodic rock that is filled with catchy choruses and truly magnificent well-played music.

If you’re a fan of the sounds I speak of then I highly recommend this fantastic release from 7HY to become one in your collection of a soon to be a classic album.
